SDSA Sailboat Racing

Here is video of us at Cedros Island off Baja California, Mexico. An SDSA instructor is trimming the spinnaker, another is on the camera. You can hear our bowman, standing behind the helmsman, call out the boat speed of 23.5 knots; it was not the top speed that day.
Does the sound of cracking Dacron make your pulse race?
After
25 years of racing sailboats, it still makes our heart pound. Our
professional sailing instructors are skilled at all levels of
sailboat competition. We have run our own campaigns, crewed for
others, and managed entire projects from the keel up.
At San Diego Sailing Academy we offer assistance with sailboat
racing, boat selection, logistics, boat preparation, rating
optimization, rule optimization, rig tuning, bottom preparation,
measurement, starts, wind strategy and tactics, inshore and
offshore navigation, crew selection and training, and crew gear by
Patagonia.

We are often told that professional sailing instruction was the
best money spent towards the goal of winning sailboat races.

Here we are standing on the podium after the San Diego
Yacht Club 1200 nautical mile San Diego, California to Puerto
Vallarta, Mexico race. The boat above, #5055 in the middle is
“Blue Blazes”, a custom 50 foot offshore race boat. We were First
in class, First Overall and best performance by a San Diego Yacht
Club boat. Two SDSA instructors sail on board as Helmsmen, one as
a Mastman.
Have you ever sailed 1200 miles and won a race with your
friends? Have you ever been thrown in the pool by your crew in
Victory? See the look on our faces? You could feel like that too,
with the proper preparation, practice and investment. At San Diego
Sailing Academy we can help you with priorities, budgets and
objectives for Victory in ocean racing sailboat ownership.
Here is some video of Blue Blazes racing across the Sea of Cortez
at about 17 knots. |
At San Diego Sailing Academy our instructors are not all about
offshore bluewater racing,
although our hearts lie in offshore
trips, we love inshore one design racing as well.
J/OK SWYC Lipton Cup Winner
Here we are drinking champagne aboard Southwestern Yacht
Club’s entry in The Sir Thomas Lipton Cup after we overcame a
deficit in the last race to win by what everyone who was there
says, was less that 1 meter. This is perhaps the most difficult
inshore one design trophy to win in Southern California. We have
been involved in 5 campaigns.
Here we are getting thrown off the dock at San Diego Yacht Club in Victory. That’s our hat.
So if you’ve read this far, you must be looking for some speed. Many of our clients tell us that professional sailing instruction was by far, the best money spent towards the goal of winning sailboat races. Affordable onboard consultations available.
